Few cars are as synonymous with the word "small cars" as Nissan Micra. In fact, Nissan was one of the pioneers. It is a class smaller than a Volkswagen Golf and was just introduced when the time was ripe for economical and fuel-efficient passenger cars - the time after the oil crisis. Micra was first introduced in 1982 and made great success in the home market. The compact dimensions were partly due to consumer demand due to the increasingly tight Japanese city traffic. In Sweden, the model only became common when the second generation was launched in 1992 and the very smallest engine was 1 liter in cylinder volume, even today competitive when the light is directed towards consumption figures. With a manual box, Nissan Micra pulled under 0.4 liters of petrol per mile. The automatic box for the time was not calibrated in the same way as today's and consumption figures for older automatic cars are usually a lot higher. Today, these older cars change owners for low sums, which has made it popular as a first car. The model has a good quality reputation and a well-serviced car with low mileage on the meter can still work really well in everyday life. The same goes for the second, third and fourth generations. Consumption figures are about the same, but the car has improved significantly in terms of comfort, safety and quality of detail. The outer dimensions have grown from one generation to the next, but so have the inner dimensions. In 2017, the fifth-generation Nissan Micra was introduced and this shares a platform with the Renault Clio which is in the same size class. The petrol engine is still 1 liter while the diesel engine has 1.5 liters in cylinder volume. The Nissan Micra with its small petrol engine is still among the very coolest cars in the class.
