The Peugeot 508 is a large family car in the same size class as a Volvo V70 or Volvo S80 and was introduced in Sweden for the year model 2011. Then it replaced both the smaller 407 and the slightly larger 607. The estate car is given the additional name "SW" after the number combination in Peugeot language. The Peugeot 508 is available in two generations and the first generation was manufactured in 2011 - 2019. Many times the Peugeot has been praised for its body design and the first generation 508 is no exception with harmoniously round and streamlined lines without disturbing elements. It is based on the same platform as the Citroën C5, which it also shares with both dimensions and comfort. The engine choices are numerous and common in the Swedish market (especially among the first year models), the diesel engines are either 1.6 or 2 liters. The second generation, like the first one, is also available as both a sedan and a caravan with diesel and petrol engines. The design differs and where the first generation was smooth and round, the second is more aggressive and pointed. New for this second generation is a hybrid drivetrain (gasoline / electricity) as well as new terms such as "GT" which means the highest level of equipment. The sedan model, like the second generation Volvo S60 and Volkswagen Arteon and others, is a four-door car but in a slim interior and a lot of sporty equipment such as paddles on the steering wheel and driving position selector. The steering wheel is flat to the shape and low placed. The driving characteristics of both models offer a lot of sport and it is noticeable that the chassis is well tuned to take curves. Especially sporty is the car with the gasoline engine at 225 horsepower. All engine choices except the smallest diesel engine are connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Peugeot 508, and especially in the sedan model, is for the driver who prioritizes form and sportier driving but at the same time needs plenty of space. Where many competitors offer generous practical features, this Peugeot is a linear and comfortable compromise between sport and practical family car.
