Trends in the automotive industry 2023 – our analysis

16 detsember, 2022

Pandemic, supply problems, war and rising inflation. While it's not the worst of the car industry to fall on hard times, it's been a challenging couple of years for the industry at large. Here is our trend scouting and analysis for 2023!

The high demand for used cars that we have seen in recent years has continued into 2022. It is only at the end of the year that we now see a more wait-and-see market.

The chain of events that affect sales is tricky, get involved now!

In general, fewer used cars have been sold in 2022, compared to previous years. Which is due, among other things, to a reduced number of new car sales. And this reduction is partly due to delivery problems, which means that companies do not have the opportunity to change cars to the same extent as before. In addition, the bonus-malus changed in spring 2021, which boosted sales last year and this also affects the comparison.

And partly they have held tight to their leasing contracts and awaited new information. And new news, it steamed down at the beginning of November!

The abolition of the climate bonus - something we remember from this year

The government removed the climate bonus and rarely (ever?!) have more electric cars been sold in 24 hours. From our point of view, we see that the rule change affects a trend we have already seen for a long time: That the demand for used electric and plug-in hybrids will continue to increase.

Scouting: 2023 is in the sign of the used electric car

According to the Chinese calendar, in 2023 we enter the Year of the Rabbit. According to Kvdbil's calendar, we are entering the year of the used electric car. The manufacturers have changed and the technology is now mature enough to not only attract early-adopters but also an ordinary car owner.

The price development of used electric cars is going against the trend and increasing. Demand is also increasing, we see that more and more people are looking for electric car models in our digital car showroom. Models such as the BMW i3, VW Passat GTE and Renault Zoe are all highly sought after.

Having said that, it must be borne in mind that the sale of used electric cars and plug-in hybrids only corresponds to 5 percent of the total used sales in Sweden this year. But we think 2023 will be the year when the sale of used electric cars really picks up!
