Volvo has the nicest cars

The Swedes have crowned Volvo the world's most beautiful car brand. This after a poll via Kantar Sifo, where over 1,400 Swedes had their say. But the rest, then? Here you see the top 10 of the best-looking list!

A somewhat surprising first place, isn't it?

Over 1,400 Swedes were asked: which car brand has the nicest design? By far the most, a whopping 13 percent, answered Volvo. Audi took second place, although with significantly fewer votes (6%). Porsche (5%), BMW (5%) and Mercedes (4%) followed in the ranking.

Daniel Odsberg, sales manager at Kvdbil, says he is somewhat surprised by the result.

- When you talk about Volvo, it's not usually the design that comes to mind first. Instead, the focus is usually on aspects such as safety, quality and longevity. But Volvo has a distinct Scandinavian style that emphasizes simplicity, elegance and functionality. It is obviously something that appeals to us Swedes, he says.

The Volvo lovers are women, younger and from Stockholm

The women (13%) in the survey showed somewhat greater fondness for Volvo than the men (12%). Otherwise, it is with the younger generation that Volvo's design makes the biggest impression. In the 18-34 age group, as many as 16 percent believe that Volvo has the most appealing design language, compared to only 8 percent of those between 56 and 79 years of age. But likes and tastes also differ depending on where in the country you live.

Stockholmers (15%) are clearly more drawn to Volvo than residents of Malmö (7%), where BMW (8%) is instead more popular. But also in other places, such as in Småland and on Öland and Gotland, Volvo sees itself beaten on the design front. Here, instead, it is Porsche's unique and iconic design that arouses the most admiration, with Saab in a surprising third place. Among other prominent sports car brands, Lamborghini in particular stands out as slightly more popular in Gothenburg than in other parts of the country. Gothenburg also has the largest share of Tesla fans.

About the survey
The survey was conducted in Kantar Sifo's web panel during the period 12–16 January 2023. A total of 1,447 people aged 18–79 were interviewed, of which 1,020 people have access to a car. The web panel is nationally representative recruited based on random selection. There is no self-recruitment in Kantar Sifo's web panel.
