Is it witchcraft? A car model has a 33 percent longer range

11 listopada, 2022

Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2 basically have the same battery size. But Teknikens Värld's test shows that the Tesla has a 33 percent longer range. How does it actually happen?

There are many factors that affect the range of an electric car and we can talk for a long time about this topic. Of course, the size of the battery is decisive - 100 kwh is better than 50 kwh, but there is also a difference between the stated range according to WLTP and the actual range.

This shows Teknikens world's test of various electric cars, which was summarized by Jan-Erik Bergren during Bilpriser's latest webinar. Car prices are part of the KVD Group and are experts in the value of cars and they regularly organize webinars with interesting and current topics.

Your driving style affects the range the most

What affects the actual range the most is how you drive - fast, slow, soft or hard, combined with temperature - both in the air and the temperature in the battery. Air resistance from the body also affects, the larger the car, the more the range is negatively affected. And then finally it's about witchcraft. This is in the form of how well the car's technology is at managing the battery's energy content.

"And here Tesla is outstanding. Even though all car brands today have electric car models, Tesla is far ahead of everyone else when it comes to energy efficiency technology," said Jan-Erik Berggren.

The optimal speed for an electric car

When Technology World tests the range of electric cars, the battery is charged up to 80 percent and then driven in a row, on the same road and at the same temperature. The car is then charged again up to 80 percent for the same procedure.

Is it possible to say something about the optimal speed for an electric car then, to maximize the range? Jan-Erik believes that 80-90 is optimal for an electric car from a range perspective. Road speed simply.
