1. Bridge opening or stoppage in traffic? Turn off the engine - idling uses an unnecessary amount of fuel and is not particularly environmentally friendly.

2. Remove equipment! Roof racks, roof boxes or bike racks that are not in use draw extra fuel due to increased wind resistance.

3. Go right! Let off the gas on downhills and keep a steady throttle when going uphill.

4. Skip a gear! From second gear you can shift to fourth (and down again). Release the gas and when the car reaches 1800 - 2000 rpm you can jump two gears instead of one.
