How much does it cost to charge an electric car?

The cost depends on the car’s battery and the electricity price where you charge. Use this calculation:

Cost to fully charge your electric car = Battery capacity × Electricity price per kWh

Cost per 10 km = Total charging cost ÷ Car’s range

Charging at home is usually the cheapest option. The average price is around SEK 2.30 per kWh* over the year, but it varies depending on your contract, electricity provider, and season.

*From November 1, 2025, a temporary high-cost protection for households will be introduced, where the state covers the difference if the monthly average electricity price exceeds SEK 1.50 per kWh during the period November 2025 to December 2026.
