The Ford Mustang is an American muscle car, the size of the "pony car" in American order, which was introduced in the United States in the mid-1960s. It quickly became a popular youth car thanks to good performance, well-liked design and with a small price tag for cars in basic design. The main competitor comes from General Motors and is called the Chevrolet Camaro, a car that has also been manufactured since the 60s. Times have changed and the Ford Mustang is nowadays not a car you might associate with young people who have just taken a driving license but rather enthusiasts of American muscle cars of all ages. In Sweden, however, the car never gets as cheap as new because of VAT and customs duties. Some annual models have been sold on the Swedish market directly through General Agent Ford, while the model has occasionally had to be imported from the United States as it has not been available through official dealers for certain periods. The most common models in Sweden are cars from the 1960s and early 1970s as well as the newer models from 2005 onwards whose shape and attributes are strongly inspired by the Mustang's golden age; it is a retro-designed car with leaf suspension and large engines. The fifth generation Ford Mustang was just launched in 2005 and became an instant sales success for the brand. In the basic design, this model has a four-liter petrol-powered V6 engine in cylinder volume and 200 horsepower, coupled to either a 5-speed automatic transmission or a 5-speed manual variant of which the former is by far the most common. Interestingly, the model was low priced in the US. At one point, it cost no more than just under $ 20,000 as new if no options were made (basic design). Two different V8 engines are available and they have cylinder volumes of 4.6 and 5.4 liters with overcharging, which are only available in special versions of the model. An update with, among other things, a new front came to model year 2010. The sixth generation Mustang was launched to model year 2015 and has similar exterior and interior dimensions as its predecessor. The big difference (except for a completely new retro-inspired design) is that the rear leaf suspension has been replaced by modern suspension and in addition to six- and eight-cylinder engines, a smaller four-cylinder version with turbo was also added.
